Sometimes it’s not them

Two weeks ago I wrote about leaving well from the leaver's side. This is the other half of that story, for the organisation’s benefit.

How you treat people on their way out is watched by everyone who stays. Employees notice whether a departure gets handled with dignity, or with an unexpected email, security escort and a cardboard box. 

They see it, talk to their teammates about it, then they quietly decide how much of themselves to keep giving you.

How a company says goodbye tells the people who remain how much they're really valued. Offboarding is often seen as admin, yet for employees it’s a signal.
