Great teamwork doesn’t happen by chance

Basketball coach Phil Jackson once said, ‘The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.’ Michael Jordan, who played for Jackson at the Chicago Bulls reinforced this by saying, ‘Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships.’

The point that they’re both making here is that whilst we might be good at what we do, we only ever achieve greatness when we realise that we are part of something bigger than just ourselves. Engagement is a two-way street.

Our teammates help us learn, grow, feel, laugh and achieve. You have a role to play in contributing your expertise, showing up with the right attitude, developing your skills, investing in what the organisation is trying to do and being a positive influence on those around you.

Great teamwork doesn’t happen by chance; it requires all of us to commit in this way, so that together we can achieve.
