Assumptions are the easiest things to make.

We don’t need permission, we can be as judgemental as we’d like to be and we can overthink the responses to our assumptions.

Yet, very rarely are our assumptions grounded in fact. The way to overcome this is to ‘test your assumptions’ by asking a question. It doesn’t need to be a long question, it can be asked face-to-face, via email or chat message.

The benefit of testing the assumption is that you don’t waste time, energy or reputation on something that may prove to be false.

Testing your assumptions is also a great way to either avoid disappointment or provide you with the confidence to proceed on the path you’ve laid.

There’s no downside to checking your assumptions are correct, which cannot be said for the opposite approach.
