Volunteers wanted

Every team has someone who needs to do administration. Usually the same someone is ‘volunteered’, and they are also the one who organises the leaving card or regular events to bring the team together.

Researchers at the University of Melbourne studied this in 2017. In mixed employee groups, women were about 44% more likely to be asked to volunteer for tasks like these, and nearly 50% more likely to say yes.

I like to think the best of people and I’m sure that nobody sets out to be unfair. However, it would be nice if this issue was recognised and that instead of waiting for the same person to be asked again, someone else volunteered instead.
