Stop hiring for culture fit
Hiring for culture fit is an oxymoron. If you want to move your business forward, then you don’t need someone to fit your current culture, you need someone who will actively contribute to the positive evolution of it.
What you need instead is someone who is a good values match. Of course, they need the skills to do the job first - that’s what gets them the interview. However, face-time is then used to decide whether the person believes in the things that you do.
Questions should be tailored towards values and responses should provide you with the confidence that the person has not only sought to understand what you stand for, but who will also bring a growth mindset to your challenges and opportunities.
Probation is your safety net. If they can't live the values, restart the search.
Stop hiring people who fit. Start hiring people who add value to your values.
