How to get a pay rise

What makes anyone eligible for a pay rise or promotion is not to consistently do the things that are on the job description, it’s to do the things that aren’t.

Pay rises and promotions become possible when we add value we weren’t expected to. Consistently showing up with a growth mindset despite what is going on around us. Not only hitting our targets but contributing to others hitting theirs too. Looking for ways to extend our knowledge or skills outside office hours. Being good humans who are respectful and enjoyable to work with at all times.

Doing what’s expected of us will mean that we get to keep our jobs (and in this market, that might be good enough!). Doing what’s not, will give us leverage for more.
