How to Deliver Projects Successfully Every Time

Business transformation is delivered through engaged project sponsors and emotionally intelligent project managers, yet the project management profession continues to be undermined by those who continually make the same mistakes.
In this refreshing, inspiring and humorous presentation, I will talk about the importance of the role of the project sponsor and manager how they need to work together to create a unique environment in which great people can do their best work. I'll provide insights into what great looks like and how to get the best out of your investment in project management.

HOW TO CREATE A MEMORABLE PROJECT

If you've been lucky enough to work with a Conscious Project Leader, you will still talk and reminisce about the project.

You'll talk about how you were given time and responsibility to do the job properly. You'll talk about the successes and disappointments and the fun that you had whilst getting the work done. You'll still be in touch with some of the team and you will try and replicate the things that went well and put your own stamp on the project you're leading now.

These WOW! projects (as Tom Peters called them in his book The Project 50) aren't an accident. There a culmination of great leadership, collaboration and innovation and at the next hangout we're going to talk about how to create one.

Understanding what it takes to create something memorable is priceless and this isn't a Hangout you'll want a miss. So RSVP, then bring a tablet or pen and paper with you on the night, share your insights and listen to others.

See you there!

Does Project Management need more leadership or more process?

In its recent Pulse of the Profession report, the PMI President Mark A. Langley stated that "we saw declines in many of the success factors we track [last year]. Even more concerning, the percentage of projects meeting their goals which had been flat for the past four years took a significant dip."

Yet despite that, we still send armies of people every year onto courses whose primary function is to teach people how to follow a method, not how to inspire others to do their best work.

This leadership focus permeates ever other area of our businesses but project management and it's time to change. Or is it?

With more and more of our work becoming projectised, is the focus on process justified and do more people just need to appreciate its' importance in the delivery of successful projects?

At the next hangout we will discuss the difference between the two approaches and ascertain - in our opinion - which focus is best.

Join us for drinks, nibbles, networking, discussion, debate and plenty of laughs because that's what building new relationships should be about.

Hope to see you there!
