Does Project Management need more leadership or more process?
In its recent Pulse of the Profession report, the PMI President Mark A. Langley stated that "we saw declines in many of the success factors we track [last year]. Even more concerning, the percentage of projects meeting their goals which had been flat for the past four years took a significant dip."
Yet despite that, we still send armies of people every year onto courses whose primary function is to teach people how to follow a method, not how to inspire others to do their best work.
This leadership focus permeates ever other area of our businesses but project management and it's time to change. Or is it?
With more and more of our work becoming projectised, is the focus on process justified and do more people just need to appreciate its' importance in the delivery of successful projects?
At the next hangout we will discuss the difference between the two approaches and ascertain - in our opinion - which focus is best.
Join us for drinks, nibbles, networking, discussion, debate and plenty of laughs because that's what building new relationships should be about.
Hope to see you there!
